In order to learn effectively using literacy teaching materials based on the data science model curriculum being distributed at the Open University of Japan, high school graduation-level “math” and “information” are required to understand the learning content It is assumed that you have mastered the learning content to be dealt with in the subject. Therefore, in this paper, we developed a remedial check test and a questionnaire in the field of data science in order to understand basic academic ability in data science education and to investigate influential factors and needs, and conducted it for a total of 140 first-year students from two universities. As a result, it is suggested that students are likely to trip over in the field of high school mathematics remedial related to DS, and the current situation that only some high school mathematics subjects and units related to DS are taken, and DS skills The actual situation of needs and understanding of DS-related terms was clarified. Furthermore, as a result of investigating the relationship between the correct answer rate of the test and the survey items, “Analysis of data” of Mathematics II and Mathematics B, and DS-related Mathematics I, “Number and probability of cases” of Mathematics A, and Mathematics B The percentage of correct answers for students who took the unit of “Probability Distribution and Statistical Guess” and those who learned presentation software and table calculation software at school was significantly high, and these items improved the mathematical basic ability regarding DS.
