This conceptualization is based more on educational practices than scientific research on media in education, and is typically expressed in the definition by the International Film and Television Council (IFTC), an organization under UNESCO. At the initial stage of the development of media education, teachers focused mainly on film and television, their influence upon us, and our abilities to face them critically. However, this traditional understanding of media education is now affected by the rapid growth of new information technologies, especially the computer and its world-wide networking.
