This framework, known as the \"Iceberg Metaphor\" or the \"Michigan Model,\" maintains that online communication is like the tip of an iceberg: Much of the participants' learning takes place offline, but these contexts are often overlooked. By observing participants' offline engagement with the conference, we are better able to determine the most appropriate ways to improve the conference to meet the users' needs.
