According to the Old Testament, people in Israel have a notion that function of a whole is dependent upon that of a single portion of it. So the function of a whole human body must be determined in accordance with the quality of function of every organ or part of a human body, such as blood, bones, internal organs, brain, hands, feet, face, mouth and ears. As to a human body, it is regarded, with not many exceptions, as a perfect physical realization of soul, which is supposed to have no material reality. Thus they believe in soul as a vital part of a human body, in other words, human life.
