These trends are characteristic of closely related to Free Trade Agreement on regional integration such as EU and NAFTA, while World trade's achieving rapid globalization of economic activlties. Whether the Rules and the Requirements on direct investment do violate the idea of the GATT-WTO system might be an important problem. However, the very nature of the Rules and the Requirements is surprising viewed in terms of the traditional explanations for international trade, which stress differences in technology and factor endowments as reasons for trade.
