However, the number of captive population originated from the couple born in China increased to 39 birds in 2003. This success in increasing the captive population in Sado Ibis Conservation Center encouraged an intension of releasing of the crested ibis into the Sado island. Some of the endangered birds, such as California Condor, Hawaiian Goose and Bald Eagle in United States, have succeeded in reintroduction of the species in the wild.\n This preliminary report aims to evaluate the capacity of the region for reintroduction of crested ibis applying geographic information systems (GIS).
