This Kenko legend is reflected in local topographies of Iga which record some of his episodes. His biography Shuseiden was also written, taking the name of the place.\n　There is a grave mound in Tanao which has been believed to be Kenko's. It has therefore been a sight of literary interest, attracting many authors and artists since the Edo period up to date, such as Doho Hattori, a disciple of Basho, and the painter Tessai Tomioka. Their journey and visit to Kenko's grave mound in Tanao were recorded as books or essays, which I would like to call 'Tanao Travel Writings' as a whole. This essay traces their development and lineage.
