I should like to examine the process of its picturization, taking the following three steps.\n\n　　1. I should like to call the pictorial representations of Essays in Idleness \"Turezure E or Turezuregusa E (Pictures in Idleness).\" And I examine their styles and formats, the schools of each painter, and the relatioitship between the literary text and these pictures.\n　　2. Then I should like to explore with some exemplary cases how influential the pictures attached to Nagusamigusa, an annotation book for Essays in Idleness, were upon the \"Pictures in Idleness.\"\n　　3. A special focus will be given to \"Turezuregusa Sikizu (The Pictures of Four Seasons in Essays in Idleness),\" a picture scroll located in Tohoku University Library, which takes its themes and materials from one chapter in the Essays in Idleness. I will study in detail how the literary text was transformed in pictures.\n\n　All this will enable us to understand the various aspects of the process in which Essays in Idleness was picturized.
