The purpose of this paper is to situate cultural values and practices of the psychological wellbeing domain proposed by the Centre for Bhutan Studies( 2009) in a Bhutanese primary school classroom. The paper reports research which explored the role of a teacher in alleviating “cultural poverty”. The study employed an ethnographic design. It involved observations of classroom interactions in a primary school, specifically the roles of a teacher in promoting some of the fundamentals of culture. In-depth interviews supplemented observations.
