The purpose of this study is to examine its ambivalent characteristics and the way it is discussed through a quantitative text analysis\nof the contents of four major national newspapers(Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun, and Nihon Keizai Shimbun)over a 40-year period beginning in the 1980s. Using the online article databases of each newspaper,\nwe generated text data of full-text articles hit by a search using “education industry” as a keyword from the early 1980s to June 2022, and analyzed them using the freeware software KH coder.\n Co-occurrence networks, correspondence analysis, and topic model analysis were conducted, and the results showed that each newspaper had distinctive news content themes. In terms of changes over time, before the 2000s,\nnews contents were divided into two categories: contents related to school education, family, and society(Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun, Mainichi Shimbun), and contents from a managerial and economic perspective, such as\nindustry and business(Nihon Keizai Shimbun).
