This study is a part of the report for the 2020/2021 research project of The Research Institute for Learning and Education Strategies.
In 2020, we tried to create a web-based practical training class for clinical psychology. By interviewing the graduates who took the web-based training course, we found that issued such as “how to build relationships,” “importance of the five senses,” “leisure associated with class time,” “how to set up time and space,” and “creating practical training in a team” were important to them. Therefore, in 2021, I pursued the possibility of “creating connections while considering safety” and tried to establish a place for online exchange during the Web class period.
As a result, it was found that most new students are looking for a place to meet each other outside class, seeking out-of-class interaction with friends they have not yet met in person. The reason was not only to confirm the content of the lesson, but also to share the experience, which leads to mutual understanding and deeper learning.
To become competent in clinical psychology, it is not enough to simply gain knowledge; it is important to accumulate experiences and share oneʼs experiences with others. In addition, it is important to be aware of each personʼs clinical framework, whether face-to-face or online. This should be retained similarly for exchanges that
accompany web-based practical training as well.
It was possible to promote exchanges with peers naturally when the classes were conducted face-to-face; the immediate challenge is to develop the same level of exchanges online.
